Small Beads to a Skyscraper

Polystyrene Beads

Expandable Polystyrene (EPS) beads are remarkably versatile. It can be used for bean bag chairs, packaging, insulation, and even environmental projects (e.g., a floating layer of beads to control mosquito populations). The bean bag is a common product made out of styrobeads. Its massed property makes it easy to support the shape of any object placed on top and can comfortably be used as a trust chair. The bean bag which is a sealed bag is commonly used as piece of furniture or as a cheap alternative to a sofa. Nowadays, people would opt for bean bags due to the comfort and relaxation it provides. It was first produced in 1969 by an Italian company. The concept was made from people in their workplace who would prefer to sit on bags that are filled with Styrofoam during their coffee breaks. The first bean bag is pear-shaped and was called “sacco.”

Styrofoam Insulation

From bean bags, polystyrene beads’ versatility has been explored further. These beads are expanded and molded into foam to form big blocks of EPS sheets. EPS sheets can be cut into desirable sizes or the necessary structural requirement. Once installed in the required position, it is coated several times to keep the EPS sheets in place.

EPS, now, becomes a contemporary building material that is ideal for the design and construction of building projects. It has been known as a conventional insulator and now, used as a material for new applications in improving indoor quality. An example of this is the sound proofing faculty once installed. Since EPS is plastic, it neither attracts bacteria nor rust making it less likely to disintegrate. Styrofoam Insulation can block raging heat or freezing cold temperatures from the outside and sustain the desired temperature from the inside. There are no other insulating materials that can do it better than polystyrene sheets.
